MEET OUR DONORS

JOHN PARMIGIANI

VINCE’S RESTAURANT & PIZZERIA

John and his brother, Michael are our hosts for our meetings at their restaurant.
He and his brother co-own the restaurant after taking it
over in 1985 when their mother's health started failing. Vincent and Mary founded
the restaurant in 1956, but John has been working
there since he was thirteen years old, so he knows everything that there is to
know about the restaurant. He said that the other side of
the restaurant was added in 1983, two years before he and his brother took over
running it.

John went on to explain that the restaurant features a gentle melding of central
and southern Italian influences, with his father bringing
in the Roman and Neapolitan type of cuisine, while his mother brought in the
southern style of cuisine from the area around Salerno. He
also stressed that everything is made from scratch (which accounts for the great
taste). Their pastas are all prepared in the traditional
hand-made way using the finest fresh ingredients, and they feature both fresh
lamb and veal on their menu. In addition to pizza, they
also feature steaks, chops, chicken made any way you want it (his words), a large
selection of seafood dishes including shrimp, scallops,
clams, and calamari, hand-made burgers, salads, and soups made in the traditional
way. This is real Italian food, and is the next best
thing to actually going to Italy!

The restaurant also features an all-you-can-eat buffet Monday through Friday from
11 AM until 4 PM, and on Sundays from noon until 6
PM. They also have daily “specials” with something different being offered each
day. Vince’s is open seven days a week and offers
reasonable prices and excellent food, which are two terrific reasons to try them
out. You won’t be disappointed! They are open Monday
through Thursday from 11 AM until midnight, Friday from 11 AM until 1 AM,
Saturday from 2 PM until 1 AM, and on Sunday from noon until
midnight.

Now let’s meet the man behind the restaurant. John grew up in the area
surrounding the restaurant, and attended St. Rita High School.
In fact, he and our current president, John Daley, graduated together. He is an
avid fisherman and is a member of the South side Muskie
Hawks, but between his duties at the restaurant and his duties as a Grand Knight
of the Knights of Columbus, he finds himself too busy
to fish! He told me that when his activity level abates somewhat, he plans to
spend more time with his family, and also plans to do some
serious fishing. In fact, it was one of his relatives in New Jersey (Johnny
Romanelli, whose family owned Romanelli's pizza), who got him
interested in fishing many years ago. John is patiently waiting for the day when
he will have the necessary time to take his boat out and
wet a line. Though John works in the restaurant on Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
and every other Sunday, he still has other duties
associated with running a highly successful restaurant on his days off, things like
getting equipment repaired and making sure that
everything is kept in good working order. Then there are also suppliers to
contact, orders to place, and bills to pay, yet through it all, he
remains a very outgoing and pleasant person, doing everything that he can to
make sure that you have enough to eat, and that you
have a pleasant dining experience at his restaurant, and will return.

If you haven’t done so yet, come out to a meeting to enjoy some of his excellent
food. The restaurant also has a full-service bar in the
next room, where all of the sports fanatics tend to congregate. Remember to try
out the restaurant on nights other than meeting nights
too. You will be pleasantly surprised. Vince’s is conveniently located at 6217 West
63rd Street (63rd and Melvina) in Chicago, and most of
their cliental having been coming there for years. In addition, They also offer
catering for any size group and any occasion, and take-out
and delivery service for any item on the menu. To place an order, call (773) 586-
8550, and prepare to sit back and enjoy Italian cuisine at
its finest!
